Pidyon Nefesh

A Pidyon Nefesh — literally “redemption of the soul” — is an ancient practice in which one gives tzedakah on behalf of a person in need of mercy, and a tzaddik prays over that name.

The tzedakah acts as a redemption, sweetening harsh decrees, while the tzaddik's prayer opens gates that our own words may not reach. It is given for healing, for a shidduch, for children, for livelihood, for protection, or at any moment of need.

Your pidyon and the name you submit are brought directly before HaGaon HaYanuka, shlit”a, and are held in complete confidence.
